The Governor General of the Iranian Capital, Tehran, has declared a 2-day period of public holidays, Tuesday and Wednesday, December 4 and 5, 2012, as a safety precaution due to Tehran's current levels of pollution.

The declaration of regional public holidays in Iran due to poor air quality is relatively common (2010-11-29, 2010-11-22 and 2009-07-07).
