The president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, has signed into law the bill "On Holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan", which was introduced last month and recently approved by the Senate and which makes May 7 a new annual non-working public holiday in Kazakhstan.

Last spring (2012-05-04), the president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, had instructed the government to draft and submit a bill ("On amendments to the Law of Kazakhstan") (2012-09-20) which would make May 7 a new, Homeland Defender Day, annual non-working public holiday in Kazakhstan.

Earlier this month (2012-10-04), Kazakhstan's Senate had passed the aforementioned bill.
