Madagascar's President, Andry Rajoelina, has announced that the postponed general elections would finally be held in January 2013.

We expect the date of these general elections to be declared a one-off public holiday as every year's "Décret fixant la liste des jours fériés au titre de l'année..." (18-Jan-2012, 15-Jan-2011, and 20-Jan-2010) have always clearly stipulated that the dates of elections shall also be public holidays ("sont déclarées également fériées, chômées et payées les journées auxquelles se tiendront des élections"), as was the case for the last postponed elections (10-Jan-2011 and 20-Dec-2010), as well as the date of the recent referendum on the new constitution (18-Nov-2010) and the date of the promulgation of the new constitution (10-Dec-2010).
