Nicaraguan 9-Day Public Sector Holidays

Nicaragua's Minister of Labour, Jeannette Chávez Gómez, has announced that Nicaragua's public sector workers and government services would once again close down for 9 consecutive days of public sector holidays on account of the upcoming Holy Week (disfrutarán de vacaciones desde el Sábado de Ramos al Domingo de Pascua inclusive).

As per the aforementioned, unnumbered, announcement (Comunicado Semana Santa 2012, 23 de marzo del 2012), government services will close on Friday night, March 30, and re-open on Monday morning, April 9, 2012.

The extension of the annual, 2-day, Easter public holidays to a full week for the public sector is a regular occurrence in Nicaragua (2011-04-08, 2010-03-17, 2009-03-20, and 2008-03-10).

The private sector, for its part gets a 4-day non-working public holidays stretching from Thursday to Sunday, April 5-8, 2012.
