The Senegalese Cabinet of Ministers has finally approved a decree declaring the date of the upcoming 2013 Magal de Touba as a non-working public holiday throughout Sénégal ("déclaré férié, chômé et payé, la journée célébrant le Grand Magal de Touba édition 2013").
At the beginning of this year (2012-01-11), former Senegalese President, Abdoulaye Wade had declared that, Thursday, January 12, 2012, the date of the Magal de Touba, would be for the first time a non-working public holiday in Sénégal, however, that declaration as well as yesterday's only refers to the upcoming Magal de Touba (expected to occur on January 1, 2013) and makes no mention of what will happen in the future.
The Magal de Touba is expected to occur a second time in 2013, on December 21.
