The Taiwanese Ministry of the Interior (MOI) has announced a plan to revise the regulations on commemorative days and festivals and exclude some current national holidays in the name of the principles of equality and freedom of religion.

As per the director of the MOI's Civil Affairs Department, Huang Li-Hsin, Buddha's Birthday and the Taoist Festival would be removed from the list of Taiwanese national holidays included in the regulations on commemorative days and festivals.

The list of working national holidays in Taiwan is often being revised, or attempts are made to do so (2010-01-07, 2009-11-02, 2009-10-21, and 2007-09-21).
