The Bahamas' Cabinet Office has issued a communique advising the general public that Monday, October 14, 2013, would be observed as the upcoming annual non-working public holiday corresponding to the 2013 Discovery Day in the Bahamas.
As per the aforementioned announcement by the Cabinet Office of the Bahamas, this year's Discovery Day non-working public holiday was moved from Saturday to Monday in keeping with a 2002 decision (2002-09-09) by the Bahamas Cabinet that some public holidays would be moved to the following Monday, when their set date fell on a Saturday.
In addition, as per the list of official Bahamas public holidays for the calendar year 2013, released earlier this year (2013-01-21), the name Discovery Day, remains unchanged, stemming from the government's reluctance (2009-10-14 and 2007-09-28) to gazette the National Heroes Bill and the National Honours Bill, which were approved by both houses of Parliament, 6 years ago (2007-03-30).
