The former president of Tanzania, Ali Hassan Mwinyi, has re-kindled the call for the member states of the East African Community (EAC), which includes Burundi, to declare November 30 as the East African Day public holiday "to enhance citizens' participation and awareness in the integration process".
November 30 is the anniversary of the date when the EAC was re-launched three years ago.
A decade ago (2002-11-27), a group of journalists from the three East African Community (EAC) states of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, had suggested that November 30 should be declared as an annual public holiday common to Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi.
