The Fiji Governing Cabinet has approved the list of the dates of official non-working public holidays in Fiji for the upcoming calendar year 2014, following a submission by Fiji's Minister for Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment.
For the second year (2012-08-01), and after years of talks on the matter (2002-01-06), the Queen's Birthday annual public holiday remains absent from the aforementioned 2014 list of official public holiday in Fiji.
That reduction in the number of Fiji's official public holidays followed the 2010 cancellation of the National Youth Day and Ratu Sukuna Day public holidays (2010-03-21 and 2010-05-24) which itself followed the 2003 cancellation of the Fiji public holiday for Prince Charles' Birthday (2003-06-11).
