Omani authorities have announced the date of the upcoming 2013 non-working public holiday in Oman for the Prophet's Ascension (Al Isra'a Wal Miraj) for both the private sector and the public sector of Oman.
In a decision by Oman's Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Civil Service Council, Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidy, employees at ministries, public authorities and other departments of the state's administrative apparatus observe non-working public holidays on Thursday, June 6, 2013, on account of the upcoming Prophet's Ascension.
In a separate communique, Oman's manpower Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Abdullah Al Bakri, issued a ministerial decision declaring Thursday, June 6, 2013, as a non-working public holiday for employees of Omani private sector companies and establishments.
Recall that, as announced a couple of months ago (2013-04-06), beginning on May 1st, 2013, Oman observes Friday-Saturday as the weekend for both the public as well as the private sector.
Contrary to what happened 2 years ago (2011-06-26), the dates of the upcoming non-working public holidays for the Prophet's Ascension (Al Isra'a Wal Miraj) were not changed as compared to the religious calendar, nor was an extra day of public holiday given, as was done last year (2012-06-10).
