Paraguay's lower house of parliament (Cámara de Diputados) has approved last month's bill to add February 3 as a new annual non-working public holiday in Paraguay.
The aforementioned bill ("Proyecto de Ley Que modifica el artículo 1º de la ley 1.601/00, Que modifica y amplía la Ley 715/95, que a su vez modifica y amplía la ley 08/90, por la cual se determinan los feriados de la República") was introduced last month (2013-09-10) in Paraguay's lower house of parliament (Cámara de Diputados) to declare February 3 as a new annual non-working public holiday in Paraguay, would do so under the name "Día de la democracia paraguaya" to mark the anniversary of the departure of former president Stroessner, rather than a public holiday for San Blás, the patron saint of Paraguay.
The bill, having now been approved by Paraguay's lower house of parliament, now moves to the Senate.
A similar bill (2010-12-21), had been approved in its first reading (2011-01-29), and would have restored the February 3, San Blas (patron saint of Paraguay) public holiday which was dropped from the list of official public holidays in Paraguay in 1995. However that earlier bill had eventually been rejected by Paraguay's lower house of parliament (Cámara de Diputados), in its second reading (2011-09-10).
