The Suriname Raad van Ministers (Council of Ministers) has announced that it had decided to declare Wednesday, June 5, 2013, as a one-off non-working public holiday throughout Suriname to commemorate the 140th anniversary of the arrival of indentured "Hindustani" workers.
It is unclear, yet, if the 160th anniversary of the arrival of Chinese indentured workers will also be marked by the declaration of a one-off non-working public holiday on October 20, 2013, as it was done 5 years ago for the 155th anniversary of the arrival of Chinese indentured workers (2008-09-19).
