The acting Governor of the Ludzidzini Royal Residence has announced that the start of the annual Little Incwala, attended by King Mswati III, will take place tomorrow.

The Little Incwala is followed by the main Incwala dance, which is an annual non-working public holiday in Swaziland, whose actual date is usually announced only a few days beforehand (2012-12-19, 2011-12-09, 2010-12-21, 2009-12-31, 2008-12-13, 2007-12-26, and 2007-01-04).

Due to the complex nature of the rule used to specify the date of the Incwala main day, and its related public holiday, the Incwala public holiday sometimes occurs twice in a year (2010-12-21, 2010-01-02, 2007-12-26, and 2007-01-04 and will happen again in 2015, 2018, and 2019). On the other hand some years it does not occur at all, as was the case in 2006 and 2009 and will be the case in 2014, 2017, and 2020.

Based on our calculations, we estimate that the upcoming Incwala public holiday will be announced for Friday, December 20, 2013.
