The UAE government has announced the dates for the upcoming Western New Year non-working public holidays in the UAE.
At a Cabinet meeting, Humaid bin Mohammed Obaid Al Qattami, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, announced that the UAE public sector would be on holidays on Wednesday, January 1, 2014, and that "work will resume on Thursday 2nd January".
In a separate announcement, the UAE's Minister of Labour, Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, has in turn announced that Wednesday, January 1, 2014, would be the date of the non-working private sector public holiday marking of the upcoming Western New Year 2014.
Contrary to previous years (2012-12-18, 2012-11-27 and 2012-11-22), this year, the private sector of the UAE gets the same number of public holidays than the public sector for the Western New Year non-working public holidays in the UAE.
In yet another separate announcement, the Emirates Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) also announced that Wednesday, January 1, 2014, would be a holiday for the financial markets and Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange (DGCX) to mark the Western New Year, and that trading would resume the next day.
