A spokesman for Uganda's Ministry of Public Service, has announced that the government of Uganda had declared Thursday, August 8, 2013, as the date of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr non-working public holiday in Uganda.

The aforementioned announcement follows an earlier announcement tonight by Haji Nsereko Mutumba, the spokesperson of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, that the Shawwal Moon has been sighted in Uganda and therefore that Thursday, August 8, 2013, would be the Eid Al Fitr in Uganda.

This date follows the Saudi Umm al-Qura calendar, which Ugandan public holidays sometimes follow (2012-10-18 and 2009-11-24), but not systematically (2008-12-06).
