Dominica December 9 Public Holiday Ruled-Out

Dominica's freshly re-elected Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has broken with unofficial tradition and announced that tomorrow, Tuesday, December 9, 2014, would not be a one-off electoral non-working public holiday in Dominica, as "it was time to get back to work".

In the Caribbean, but not systematic (28-Nov-2011), for the day after an election to be declared as a one-off non-working public holiday (11-Sep-2014, 12-Jun-2014, 20-Feb-2013, 10-Jan-2010, 30-Dec-2009, 19-Dec-2009, 08-Sep-2009, 13-Mar-2009, 05-May-2005, 22-Feb-2005, 21-May-2003, 21-Oct-2003, 27-Nov-2003, 02-Jan-2007, 03-Dec-2001 and 23-May-1997), and indeed this was the case on the occasion of Dominica's 2 previous General Elections (30-Dec-2009 and 05-May-2005).
