The President of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC) has announced yesterday, that Saturday, October 4, 2014, would be the date of the upcoming Muslim feast of Eid Al Adha, better known in the Gambia as Tobaski, and corresponding annual non-working public holiday in the Gambia.
For the 6th year in a row (2013-10-11, 2011-11-01, 2010-11-15 and 2009-11-20), and contrary to the year before that (2008-12-04), the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council is announcing a date in line with that announced by Saudi Arabia (2014-09-25).
Five years ago (2009-09-01), Gambia's President, Yaya Jammeh, and the Gambian Supreme Islamic Council (SIC), had jointly announced that from now on the dates of Muslim public holidays would be calculated in line with the Umm al-Qura calendar used by Saudi Arabia.
