The deputy director of the Office of Personnel of the Republic of Northern Cyprus has announced that last year's proposal to cancel the Prophet's Birthday non-working public holiday in the Republic of Northern Cyprus had been rejected by Parliament, and therefore that Monday, January 13, 2014, would be a non-working public holiday in the Republic of Northern Cyprus on account of the upcoming "Mevlit Kandili" (birthday of the Prophet Muhammed).
Early last year (2013-01-04), the government of North Cyprus had announced that, beginning in 2013, there would be one less non-working public holiday in the official list of annual non-working public holidays in Cyprus, namely that the annual non-working public holiday for the Mavlid Al Nabi (the Prophet's Birthday) would no longer be included in the official list of annual non-working public holidays in Northern Cyprus.
