Romanian Prime Minister, Victor Ponta, has announced that he would most likely "succumb" to the mounting recent pressure to declare another one-off non-working bridge public holiday on Friday, May 2, 2014, to tie the annual May 1st public holiday in Romania with the following weekend.
Earlier this month (2014-03-20), Romanian associations for the promotion of tourism (Asociatia de Promovare Litoral-Delta Dunarii si Federatia Asociatiilor de Promovare Turistice din Romania) had asked the Romanian government to amend the previously-announced (2013-02-25) list of official non-working public holidays in Romania for the calendar year 2014, with the declaration of another one-off non-working bridge public holiday on Friday, May 2, 2014.
Such additional one-off public holidays declarations, in particular around the annual May 1st non-working public holiday, are not uncommon in Romania.
Last year (2013-03-07), the Romanian Government adopted a resolution declaring Thursday and Friday, May 2 and 3, 2013, as additional one-off non-working public holidays in Romania.
The year before (2012-04-20 and 2012-04-26), Romania's Prime Minister, Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, had announced that Monday, April 30, 2012, would be declared a one-off bridge public holiday, to link the weekend of April 28-29 with the annual May 1st Labour Day non-working public holiday.
