Ecuador's Minister in charge of security (Ministro coordinador de Seguridad), César Navas, has announced that the Government of Ecuador was considering declaring one-off non-working public holidays in Ecuador on account of the upcoming 2015 visit of Pope Francis in Ecuador.

The aforementioned papal public holidays would be in addition to those of the Decreto 1162, which was released (2012-05-04), then amended (2013-01-21), by Ecuador's Presidency, and which specifies the framework for determining the dates of Ecuador's non-working public holidays for the calendar years 2013, 2014, and 2015, as specified again at the end of last year (2014-11-09) when Ecuador's Ministry of Tourism (Ministerio de Turismo) issued a communiqué listing the annual dates of Ecuador's non-working public holidays for the upcoming calendar year 2015.

Bolivia (2015-04-20 and 2015-05-05) and Paraguay (2015-05-22 and 2015-05-28) have also declared one-off non-working public holidays for the upcoming visit of South America by Pope Francis.
