Ecuador's President, Rafael Correa, has released the Decreto No.858 which specifies the dates of the annual non-working public holidays in Ecuador, one-off public holidays in Ecuador, and moveable public holidays in Ecuador, for the upcoming 5-year period covering the calendar years 2016-2017-2018-2019-2020.

The aforementioned decree specifies that most public holidays' day off will continue to be moved to the nearest weekend, as per the 2003 "Ley Orgánica de Servicio Civil y Carrera Administrativa y de Unificación y Homologación de las Remuneraciones del Sector Público" (2003-12-04).

As was the case in the previous such 5-year announcement of the annual non-working public holidays in Ecuador, one-off public holidays in Ecuador, and moveable public holidays in Ecuador, 5 years ago (2012-05-04), the decree specifies that Carnival Monday and Tuesday will be non-working public holidays, to be recuperated by 2 working Saturdays, and specifies exactly which will be these 2 Saturdays, while the preceding 5-year announcement of the annual non-working public holidays in Ecuador, one-off public holidays in Ecuador, and moveable public holidays in Ecuador, ten years ago (2007-06-20), left the declaration of the compensating working Saturdays to be announced once a year (2012-02-11, 2010-02-18, 2009-02-21, 2008-01-27 and 2007-02-17).
