The Ministry of Home Affairs of Guyana, via the Minister of Home Affairs of Guyana, Clement J. Rohee, has finally announced that, as per Section 6 of the Public Holiday Act, Monday, May 11, 2015 had been declared a one-off non-working public holiday throughout Guyana in observance of the upcoming General and Regional Elections.
Earlier this year (2015-01-21), the President of Guyana, Donald Ramotar, had announced that the next national parliamentary election would be held on Monday, May 11, 2015, and we mentioned that we expected Monday, May 11, 2015, to be declared a one-off non-working public holiday in Guyana, as the date of the past 2 general elections in Guyana had been declared as one-off non-working public holidays in Guyana (2011-11-24, 2011-11-23, 2011-10-10 and 2006-08-23).
Today's declaration of Monday, May 11, 2015, as one-off non-working public holiday in Guyana, is thus in addition to the annual list of official non-working 2015 public holidays in Guyana, announced last autumn (2014-11-07).
