The Ministry of Labor, Employment and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic has released an updated and expanded version of the calendar of annual public holidays which will be non-working public holidays in Kyrgyzstan and days off in the upcoming calendar year 2016.

As per today's announcement, Friday, January 8, 2016, will be a one-off non-working public holiday in Kyrgyzstan, to be compensated by Saturday, January 16, 2016, being declared a regular working day in Kyrgyzstan.

Earlier this month (2015-12-09), the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic had released a draft calendar of annual public holidays to be non-working public holidays in Kyrgyzstan and days off in the upcoming calendar year 2016, which contained a draft proposal "to move a series of festive dates on the weekdays" which, if approved, as we surmise it will, would specify the list of one-off bridge non-working public holidays throughout the year, compensated by declaring a weekend day as a regular working day in Kyrgyzstan for the upcoming calendar year 2016, at the beginning of the year.

In past years, the initial declaration of the annual public holidays in Kyrgyzstan for the upcoming calendar year (2015-07-14, 2013-12-22, 2013-01-04, 2012-03-14 and 2011-01-01), was often followed by the piecemeal declaration of one-off bridge non-working public holidays throughout the year, compensated by declaring a weekend day as a regular working day (2014-12-26, 2013-04-28, 2011-12-31, 2010-11-11, 2010-08-25, 2010-02-15, 2009-12-11, 2008-12-19 and 2007-12-27).
