Singapore's Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has finally released the official list of non-working public holidays in Singapore for the upcoming calendar year 2016 which, for a second consecutive year, does not include an error in the date of the 2016 Deepavali public holiday in Singapore.
As we noted last year (2014-04-08), when the MOM released an initial list of 2015 non-working public holiday in Singapore, and more recently when it later confirmed it unchanged (2015-05-11), despite being repeatedly shunned by the HEB in our offers to help it make better estimates of the date of the Deepavali public holiday in Singapore, the HEB does seem to have abandoned the model it previously used (2013-04-09, 2009-02-10, 2008-03-27, 2008-02-25, 2003-04-11, and 2002-03-04), and chosen the date we have been forecasting for the 2016 Deepavali public holiday in Singapore.
In the past, the determination of the annual date of the Deepavali public holiday in Singapore has often been problematic, with the announced date for 2009 (2009-02-10 and 2008-02-25), being revised by 1 month shortly before the actual holiday was to occur and smaller, one-day, errors in the announced date of the 2014 and 2013 Deepavali public holidays in Singapore (2014-04-07, 2013-04-09 and 2012-04-09).
