The Algerian public sector ministry (Direction Générale de la Fonction Publique) announced that Monday, December 12, 2016, had been declared as a non-working public sector holiday in Algeria ("La journée du lundi 12 Rabie El Aouel 1438 de l'Hégire, (12 décembre 2016), correspondant à la fête du Mawlid Ennbawi sera chômée et payée") on account of the annual "Mawlid Ennabawi" (Prophet's Birthday) non-working public holiday of Algeria.
In 2015, the Milad Al Nabi (Prophet's Birthday) occurred twice, once in early January (2014-12-29) and once at the end of December (2015-12-15).
