Earlier this morning, local time, Bhutan's Home Ministry has declared today, Wednesday, January 20, 2016, a government non-working public holiday in Bhutan, due to the "first snowfall of the winter" traditional non-working public holiday in Bhutan.

The government non-working public holiday in Bhutan, due to the "first" snowfall of the winter is yearly event which is often tweaked.

Two years ago (2014-03-05), it was observed on March 5, though that day's snowfall was not the first snowfall of the winter, but the previous snowfall had coincided with a public holiday. Three years ago (2013-01-20), declared the first snowfall public holiday of Bhutan on the Monday following a Sunday first snowfall. And the year before, the first snowfall public holiday of Bhutan was skipped as it coincided with the January 2, annual public holiday of Bhutan.

This morning's announcement of today, Wednesday, January 20, 2016, a government non-working public holiday in Bhutan, due to the "first snowfall of the winter" traditional non-working public holiday in Bhutan, is in addition to the list of 2016 public holidays in Bhutan, as announced last autumn (2015-10-01), by the Royal Civil Service Commission of the Government of Bhutan in its annual official list of national and regional non-working public holidays in Bhutan for the upcoming calendar year 2016, which comprised the end of the soon to end Year of the Wood Female Sheep and most of the upcoming Year of the Fire Male Monkey.
