The prefecture of Rio de Janeiro has published the Decreto nº 41.867, de 21 de junho de 2016, which declared 3, one-off, non-working public holidays in Brazil's city of Rio de Janeiro on account of the upcoming Olympic games.
As per the aforementioned Decreto nº 41.867, de 21 de junho de 2016, August 5, 18 and 22, 2016, will be non-working public holidays in Brazil's city of Rio de Janeiro on account of the upcoming Olympic games.
Recall that, 2 years ago (2014-05-14), the Municipal Government of the Brazilian city of São Paulo has announced that it would also avail itself of the terms of the "Lei da Copa" and declare June 12, 2014, the day of the inauguration of the upcoming world cup soccer championship, as a one-off non-working municipal public holiday, following the earlier declaration (2014-03-13), by the Municipal Government of the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, of 3 one-off non-working municipal public holidays in June and July 2014; June 18 and 25, 2014, as half-day public holidays, and July 4, 2014, as a full-day public holiday.
The "Lei da Copa", gazetted 2 before (2012-06-07), allowed Brazilian states and municipalities to declare one-off public holidays whenever a FIFA World Cup game occurs in their jurisdiction in 2014.
