Costa Rica's President, Luis Guillermo Solís, has issued a decree declaring Thursday and Friday, November 24 and 25, 2016, as one-off non-working public holidays in Costa Rica, on account of the impending arrival of tropical storm Otto.

As per the aforementioned decree, the declaration of Thursday and Friday, November 24 and 25, 2016, as one-off non-working public holidays in Costa Rica, on account of the impending arrival of tropical storm Otto, is limited to the public sector, as the government has no authority to declare one-off non-working public holidays in Costa Rica for the private sector, though President Solís encourages the private sector to follow suit, partially at least (“No podemos obligar al sector privado a suspender actividades, hacemos un llamado para que protejan a sus colaboradores ante el huracán. Recomendamos al sector privado adoptar las medidas necesarias para protección de los trabajadores y valorar la suspensión de operaciones”).
