The Government of the Malaysian state of Kedah, in the person of Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, has, in turn, announced that the Malaysian state of Kedah had decided to grant Sunday, July 10, 2016, as a one-off day in lieu public sector holiday in the Malaysian states of Kedah where Friday is a non-working day.
Today's announcement that Monday, July 10, 2016, would be a one-off public sector holiday in Kedah, follows last week's announcement (2016-07-01 and 2016-06-24) by the Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia, Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, that the Government of Malaysia had agreed to grant Friday, July 8, 2016, as a one-off bridge non-working public sector holiday in the Malaysian states where Friday is a regular working day, this decision itself, being followed (2016-07-02) by an announcements that Monday, July 10, 2016, would be a one-off public sector holiday in Johor and Terengganu, states where Friday is a non-working day.
Traditionally, only 3 of Malaysia's states and territories observed a Friday/Saturday weekend; Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu. But these were joined by Johor, three years ago (2013-11-23).
Recall that, in any event, the entire discussion above will be moot for Malaysia's State of Penang which, last month, announced that Friday, July 8, 2016, would be a one-off non-working state public holiday in Penang (2016-06-15).
