Nicaragua's Minister of Labour, "Compañera" Rosario Murillo, issued a communique declaring that Monday, May 30, 2016, would once again be a non-working public sector holiday in Nicaragua, in accordance with the Decreto Presidencial 22-2010, to mark Nicaragua's Mothers' Day.

As per the aforementioned announcement (para subrayar el significado de esta fiesta de nuestra Madre María, estamos dando a conocer la decisión del Comandante Daniel de decretar el lunes 30 de mayo, Día de las Madres en nuestra Nicaragua, feriado, día de asueto para todo el sector público.), and as is usually done (2014-05-27, 2013-05-24, 2012-05-28, 2012-04-25 and 2011-05-28), the Monday, May 30, 2016, non-working public sector holiday is declared to favour family activities ("Vamos a tener el día libre para estar con nuestras mamás o con nuestras compañeras que son mamás (para) celebrar, acompañar, festejar") and will apply to the public sector of the economy of Nicaragua (ie. employees of the state).

The Nicaraguan private sector is left to decide the observance or not of this public holiday on a case-by-case basis (los trabajadores del sector privado se regirán conforme los acuerdos que alcancen entre las partes).
