Oman 2016 Eid al Adha Public Holidays Announced

Omani authorities have announced the dates of the upcoming Eid al Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) annual non-working public holidays for the private sector and the public sector, for the calendar year 2016, as running from the 9th to the 16th of Dhul Hijjah, for the public sector, and from the 9th to the 13th of Dhul Hijjah for the private sector.

As per a decision by Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal bin Saud al-Busaidi, Oman's Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and the Chairman of the Civil Service Council, "On the occasion of the blessed Eid Al Adha 1437 AH, and as per the Royal Orders of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, the Eid holiday for employees at the ministries, public authorities and other departments of the state's administrative apparatus will be from Sunday 9th Dhul Hijjah 1437 AH, corresponding to 11th September 2016 till Thursday 13th Dhul Hijjah 1437 AH corresponding to 15th September 2016. Work will be resumed on Sunday 16th Dhul Hijjah 1437 AH, corresponding to 18th September 2016.".

The aforementioned announced period of non-working public holidays for the upcoming Eid al Adha in Oman is more than last year's (2015-09-17), more in line with some previous years when week long extensions of the Eid public sector holidays were common (2014-09-25, 2014-07-21, 2013-10-10, 2013-08-08, 2012-10-20, 2011-10-31, 2011-08-24, 2010-09-06 and 2009-09-17).

In a separate announcement, Oman's Minister of Manpower, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser al-Bakri, issued a ministerial decision stating that concerning the upcoming private sector, non-working, Eid al Adha public holidays in Oman "the Eid Al Adha holiday at the private sector's companies and establishments will be from Sunday 9th Dhul Hijjah 1437 AH, corresponding to 11th September 2016 till Thursday 13th Dhul Hijjah 1437 AH, corresponding to 15th September 2016".
