The Minister of Education, Sports and Culture of Samoa, Loau Keneti Sio, has announced that the government of Samoa would declare a half-day non-working public holiday in Samoa, on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, "in celebration of Lupesoliai Joseph Parker’s historic win over Andy Ruiz Jnr to secure the world heavyweight title".

The declaration of Wednesday, December 21, 2016, as a non-working public holiday in Samoa, is in addition to the quadrennial list of official non-working public holidays in Samoa for the calendar years 2015-2016-2017-2018, as released by the Samoan Ministry of Commerce, Industry And Labour in past years (2014-04-20 and 2011-09-06), and amended earlier this year (2016-08-04).
