The Sri Lankan Minister of Home Affairs has announced that the Sri Lankan Government had decided to declare Monday, May 23, 2016, as a day in lieu non-working public holiday in Sri Lanka in view of the annual Vesak full Moon Poya day of Sri Lanka falling on a Saturday in 2016.

The aforementioned announcement by the Sri Lankan Minister of Home Affairs has announced that the Sri Lankan Government had decided to declare Monday, May 23, 2016, as a day in lieu non-working public holiday in Sri Lanka in view of the annual Vesak full Moon Poya day of Sri Lanka falling on a Saturday in 2016, thus officially amends the official list of Sri Lankan public holidays for the calendar year 2016 as announced last year (2015-05-29).

Recall that, last month (2016-04-29), the Sri Lankan Government decided not to declare Monday, May 2, 2016, as a day in lieu non-working public holiday in Sri Lanka, while earlier that same month (2016-04-11), the Sri Lankan Government had decided to declare Friday, April 15, 2016, as a non-working public holiday in Sri Lanka, to link this year's, April 13-14, Sinhala and Tamil New Year, Sri Lankan Public holidays with the subsequent weekend of April 16 and 17, 2016.
