Bangladesh's National Moon Sighting Committee and Religious Affairs Committee announced that the moon of the month of Shaban had been sighted in Bangladesh's sky, and therefore that the upcoming Shab-e-Barat (night of fortune and forgiveness) would be observed on Thursday, May 11, 2017, to be accompanied by the corresponding annual non-working public holiday in Bangladesh.
Note that the aforementioned announcement is in line with the official list of 2017 non-working public holidays in Bangladesh, as contained in the Memo no.- 05.00.0000.173.08.005.12-270, dated 14 Agrahayana, 1423 Bengali Era (2016-12-03), and the initial non-official announcement of the list of 2017 public holidays in Bangladesh (2016-11-25), as the non-working public holiday related to the Shab-e-Barat is observed on the day which follows the Shab-e-Barat in Bangladesh (2016-05-08, 2015-05-20, 2014-05-29 and 2013-06-10).
