Canada NB Family Day Public Holiday Update

It would seem that the plans to declare a new annual "Family Day" non-working public holiday in the Canadian Province of New Brunswick, beginning in 2017, announced by the Minister of Social Development of Canada's Province of New Brunswick, Cathy Rogers, have been shelved, at the very least, for the calendar year 2017.

A year ago (2016-02-14), the Minister of Social Development of Canada's Province of New Brunswick, Cathy Rogers, announced that her government was preparing a bill to declare a new annual "Family Day" non-working public holiday in the Canadian Province of New Brunswick, possibly beginning in 2017, which would mean that the Canadian Province of New Brunswick would join many other Canadian provinces which have declared an annual non-working public holiday in February over the past years: the third Monday of February for almost 2 decades in the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan, since 2008 by Ontario and Manitoba (2007-10-11 and 2007-09-26) and later by the Province of Prince Edward Island (2009-04-24, 2008-11-27, 2008-04-06), since 2013 in British Columbia (2013-01-31, 2012-05-29, 2012-05-11, 2011-10-05, and 2011-02-03), albeit on the second Monday of February, rather than the third Monday of February, and most recently in Nova Scotia (2014-06-28 and 2013-12-06).

This would not be the first time that the idea of a new annual "Family Day" non-working public holiday in the Canadian Province of New Brunswick has been raised and left to peter out. In 2010 (2010-09-06), the then Premier of New Brunswick, Shawn Graham, had announced that his government, if re-elected, would declare a new annual provincial public holiday, Family Day, on the third Monday of February, but his government was defeated in that year's autumn elections (2010-09-28), leaving the promise unheeded.
