The Government of Hungary, upon the recommendation of the Hungarian National Economy Minister, after a year's pause in 2017, has once more announced an expanded version of its annual list of official non-working public holidays in Hungary for the calendar year 2018.
In past years (2015-06-30, 2015-04-30, 2014-07-25, 2013-09-28, 2012-11-22, 2012-09-07, 2011-10-15, 2010-11-21, 2009-09-29, 2008-07-22, 2007-11-20, and 2006-09-12), the Government of Hungary, upon the recommendation of the Hungarian National Economy Minister, would announce a list of bridge, and other one-off, public holidays for the upcoming calendar year, along with the list of Saturdays that were to be regular working days, in compensation. These applied to both the private and public sectors ("E rendelet hatálya kiterjed minden munkáltatóra és az általuk foglalkoztatottakra").
However, for the calendar year 2017, no expanded version of the annual list of official non-working public holidays in Hungary for the calendar year 2017, was announced, due to the fact that there were no "orphan" Hungarian public holidays on Tuesday or Thursday during that year (2016-10-16), although Hungary did benefit from a new annual non-working public holiday for Good Friday (2017-03-07, 2017-01-08 and 2016-11-20), as was done in the preceding years in the neighboring Czech Republic (2015-12-03), after years of discussions on the matter (2015-06-22, 2015-10-24, 2010-04-08, 2007-02-07 and 2006-11-03).
