The government of Kiribati has announced that the upcoming National Health Day non-working public holiday in Kiribati would be observed on Monday, April 10, 2017.
The annual National Health Day non-working public holiday in Kiribati has been declared at varying dates every year, for the past few years (2016-04-01, 2015-01-17, 2014-02-08, 2013-01-07, 2011-10-28, 2010-12-19 and 2010-01-03), following the changes a decade ago (2005-12-30), whereby, to avoid the awkwardness of having to repeal the whole of that previous act's Schedule and substituting a new Schedule of "all approved public holidays in Kiribati", as had been done in the past (2001-11-12 and 2002-06-22), the aforementioned public holidays act was amended in Sections 8 of the "Public Holidays Ordinance (Cap.81)" so that "Minister, acting in accordance with the advice of the Cabinet, will have power to amend the Schedule simply by publishing a notice to that effect in the Gazette" and in addition, "the Minister will retain the power under section 6 to vary the days fixed as public holidays on an ad hoc basis".
