A Kuwaiti National Assembly MP, Abdullah Fahad, has submitted a bill that would cancel the annual Western New Year public holiday, among others, in Kuwait.

In the past, though this is not the case this year, one-off western New Year public holidays were often declared by the Kuwaiti Civil Service Commission whenever January 1st occurred near (2011-12-22) or during (2015-12-24, 2010-11-26 and 2009-12-17) the Kuwaiti weekend (2007-08-04), though not always systematically (2013-12-19 and 2013-12-08).

Abdullah Fahad also proposes the cancellation of the public holidays marking the Prophet’s Birthday (2016-11-29), the Israa and Ma’araj (2017-04-12), and the advent of the Islamic Year (2015-10-08).
