The Directorate General of Personnel Administration has released its official annual calendar of official non-working public holidays in Taiwan for the upcoming calendar year 2018.
As was the case last year (2016-04-13), but not the 2 preceding years (2015-10-15 and 2014-06-12), for the list of 2016 and 2015 public holidays in Taiwan, the aforementioned announcement of the official annual calendar of official non-working public holidays in Taiwan for the upcoming calendar year 2018, is being announced just in time for the deadline due to regulations adopted in March 2013, which obligate the Directorate General of Personnel Administration to make public the national holiday calendar for following year before June 1st of the previous year (2013-05-31).
After a year of frenzied discussions about rolling back national holidays in Taiwan last year (2016-04-10 and 2016-03-29), the aforementioned calendar of official non-working public holidays in Taiwan for the upcoming calendar year 2018, is in line with the amendments to the Labor Standards Act implementing a five-day workweek and an overall reduction of the number of annual public holidays in Taiwan from 19 to 12, passed by Taiwan's Legislative Assembly and promulgated by Taiwan's Presidential Office last year (2016-12-21).
