Turkmenistan's President, Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov, has signed a decree declaring Tuesday, September 5, 2017, as a one-off day in lieu non-working public holiday "to make up for the Sunday that happens during the Eid al-Adha festival".

As per the aforementioned announcement, the decree applies to both the private and public sectors ("all agencies, companies and organizations, regardless of ownership form, are prescribed to enforce this order").

The Labour Code of Turkmenistan does not specify any systematic compensation when any of Turkmenistan's public holidays falls on a weekend.

However, paragraph 3 of Article 81 of the said Labour Code gives the President the discretionary powers to do so on a case-by-case basis, something that President Berdimuhammadov has done more and more frequently over the years (2013-10-25, 2012-12-22, 2012-02-11, 2011-12-30, 2010-12-10, 2010-03-19 and 2009-11-10).
