The UAE's Federal Authority for Human Resources has issued a circular stating that the upcoming annual public sector holiday in the UAE for the upcoming Western New Year 2018 non-working public holidays in the UAE would run for 4 consecutive days, from Friday, December 29, 2017, to Monday, January 1, 2018.

The aforementioned announcement, and the declaration of an additional non-working public holiday in the UAE, is due to the terms of item No. 6 of "Article 100 of the Ministerial Council decision No. 13 for the year 2012 on the regulations of the Federal Law No. 11 of 2008 on Human Resources of the Federal Government and its amendments", and the fact that the UAE Cabinet decree No.21/2006 (31-May-2006) changed the weekend days in the UAE to Fridays and Saturdays, as of Friday September 1st, 2006.
