Bahrain's Prime Minister, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, has issued a circular declaring Wednesday and Thursday, September 19 and 20, 2018, as this year's non-working public holidays in Bahrain to mark the upcoming anniversary of Ashura for the Hijri year 1440.

As happened many years (2015-10-21, 2013-11-10 and 2012-11-20), though not all (2014-10-29), as the aforementioned dates of Wednesday and Thursday, September 19 and 20, 2018, as this year's non-working public holidays in Bahrain to mark the upcoming anniversary of Ashura for the Hijri year 1440 do not coincide with the Fridays and Saturdays weekly days of rest in Bahrain (2006-08-02), the circular does not declare compensatory non-working public holidays for the Bahraini governmental ministries, directorates and institutions.
