The press office of the Government of Belize has sent out a press release announcing the official list of annual non-working public holidays in Belize for the calendar year 2019.
The aforementioned list of annual non-working public holidays in Belize for the calendar year 2019, is in line with the First and Second Schedule to the Holidays Act, Chapter 289 of the Laws of Belize, Revised Edition 2000-2003.
However, in line with the official list of annual non-working public holidays in Belize for many of the past years (2017-01-06, 2014-11-01, 2013-09-20 and 2012-11-15), though not all (2017-10-22 and 2015-10-29), the aforementioned official list of public holidays in Belize for the calendar year 2019 moves many of the fixed-date public holidays that will fall on a Saturday in 2019 to the next Monday.
Recall that, under article 9 of the Belize Holidays Act (2000, revised 2003), the government of Belize has discretionary powers to declare a day in lieu public holiday, if any fixed-date public holiday falls on a Saturday. Historically, the government of Belize has chosen to use these discretionary powers on and off over the years (2008-06-30, 2008-01-04 and 2002-08-29), without any obvious pattern being discernible.
