The SPD and Green government groups of Germany's state of Thuringia have submitted a bill to make World Children's Day, on September 20, a new annual non-working public holiday in Germany's state of Thuringia, beginning in 2019.

The list of 2017 bank holidays in Germany (2016-09-04) included a one-off national public holiday for Reformation Day, on October 31, 2017, after half a decade of piecemeal declaration of October 31, 2017, as a one-off public holiday, by each German Land (2015-10-08, 2014-09-16, 2013-12-12, 2013-08-13, 2013-06-04, 2013-05-17, 2013-05-15, 2013-05-01, 2013-03-14, 2013-03-08, 2013-01-25, 2013-01-10, 2012-12-13), and since then many states have added Reformation Day on October 31st as a new annual state public holiday (2018-06-14, 2018-06-13, 2018-03-07, 2018-03-01, 2018-02-23, 2018-02-15, 2018-01-29), beginning in 2018, with the exception of Berlin, which seems to have decided to choose another date (2018-07-16).
