The Government of India's State of Karnataka has invoked Section 135 (B) of the "Representation of People’s Act, 1954" to declare Saturday, May 12, 2018, as a one-off non-working public holiday in the Indian State of Karnataka for the Assembly elections in Karnataka.

The aforementioned declaration of Saturday, May 12, 2018, as a one-off non-working public holiday in the Indian State of Karnataka for the Assembly elections in Karnataka, applies to "all those who are working in Educational Institutions, Public and Private Sector Banks, Government Offices and Establishments, Co-operative institutions and all other sectors".

Last autumn (2017-11-17 and 2017-11-10), the Government of India's State of Karnataka had issued, and then gazetted, the "Karnataka Government Order NO.DPAR 29 HHL 2017", which contained its annual list of the days which were to be non-working public holidays in India's state of Karnataka for the, then upcoming, calendar year 2018.
