The President of Liberia, George Weah, has issued a proclamation declaring Tuesday, July 31, 2018, as a non-working public holiday to be observed in Bong and Montserrado counties on account of the by-elections being held in those counties on that date.

The declaration of one-off non-working public holidays in Liberia on account of election-related events has occurred regularly over the past years (2017-12-22, 2017-10-06, 2014-12-15, 2012-04-23, 2012-01-13, 2011-10-06, 2011-08-09, 2011-01-28, 2009-11-23, 2009-11-09, 2009-04-08, and 2005-10-07).
