Bowing to public pressure, Malaysia's Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, has announced that the government of Malaysia had decided to declare Wednesday, May 9, 2018, as a one-off non-working public holiday in Malaysia on account of the upcoming general elections.

The aforementioned announcement that the government of Malaysia had decided to declare Wednesday, May 9, 2018, as a one-off non-working public holiday in Malaysia on account of the upcoming general elections, thus amends the "Jadual Hari Kelepasan Am Persekutuan 2018" (Federal Public Holidays Schedule 2018), released last summer (2017-08-01).

As usual (2017-04-05, 2012-03-07, 2012-03-16 and 2012-02-24), due to the peculiarities of Malaysia's public holidays legislation, even in the case of national public holidays declarations, the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak must officially declare these national public holidays separately.
