The government of Timor Leste announced that it had once again decided to grant an additional day-off public sector holiday in Timor Leste ("Governu deside ona hodi fó toleránsia pontu iha loron 1 fulan-marsu - Kuarta-Feira Sinzas, iha kalendáriu katóliku") for Ash Wednesday, on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, to to all employees and agents of the ministries or their dependent services, as well as the institutes and integrated indirect State administration bodies.
As per the aforementioned announcement, the public holiday on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, is in line with what was done for the past 7 years (2017-02-23, 2016-02-09, 2015-02-16, 2014-03-01, 2013-02-11, 2012-02-17 and 2011-03-07), as were Holy Thursday and Easter Monday (2015-03-31, 2014-04-15, 2013-03-25, 2012-04-04 and 2011-04-11).
According to the Secretariat of State of the Council of Ministers of Timor Leste, this decision is based on law No.10/2005, which overhauled Timor Leste's public holidays (2005-08-12), though the aforementioned declaration of Wednesday, February 14, 2018, as an additional day-off public sector holiday in Timor Leste, is in addition to the recently-released (2018-01-09) list of non-working public holidays in Timor Leste for the calendar year 2018.
