Parliamentarians of La Araucanía have asked asked the Chilean Government to declare a one-off regional public holiday on Monday, December 14, 2020, the day on which a total solar eclipse will be visible from the Chilean province of La Araucanía.
Earlier this year (2019-04-16), a group of Chilean parliamentarians had pushed for July 2, 2019, to be declared a one-off non-working public holiday in Chile, on the day when a good part of the country was to experience a total solar eclipse. This proposed one-off public holiday in Chile was eventually rejected (2019-06-20).
