The President of the Gambia, Adama Barrow, has announced that the upcoming annual non-working public holiday in the Gambia for the Eid ul-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) would be observed on Monday, August 12, 2019.
Today's announcement ("The Public is hereby informed that the President of the Republic, His Excellency Adama Barrow, acting under Section 76 (1) of the 1997 Constitution of The Gambia, is pleased to declare Monday, 12th August 2019 a Public Holiday throughout The Gambia in honour of the Muslim feast of Eid-al-Adha. On behalf of the First Family and the government, the president would like to wish the entire Muslim Ummah a joyous and blessed Eid celebration!") that the upcoming annual non-working public holiday in the Gambia for the Eid ul-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) would be observed for only one day, on Monday, August 12, 2019, is in contrast to the recent trend by Gambia's President, Adama Barrow, of extending the annual public holidays of the Gambia by a second day (2019-06-03, 2018-12-24, 2017-06-22, 2018-08-20, 2016-09-09).
